The rise of e-commerce has brought with it a number of benefits, such as the convenience of buying products without leaving home - which became especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this convenience has also brought a worrying increase in wasted packaging, especially with regard to the use of plastic in such packages. 

The problem of packaging waste

Online shopping has seen exponential growth in recent years. With the increase in the number of orders, the use of packaging has also multiplied. Unfortunately, much of this packaging is designed to be used only once, ending up being discarded and contributing to a significant increase in waste. 

Plastic is one of the most commonly used materials in e-commerce packaging because of its durability and versatility. However, plastic's long lifespan makes it a major environmental challenge when it comes to proper disposal. Incorrectly disposed plastic can take centuries to decompose, causing damage to ecosystems and marine life.

From the genesis of our store, we knew that one of our main concerns would be to create a sustainable packaging, delivery and process regime. How do we do this? 

1. "Smart" cardboard packaging

All our orders are shipped in cartons with snap-on flaps, which make it easy to open and close the order without damaging the carton. This allows the boxes to be reused, preventing waste.

2. Sturdy paper tape 

Our policy is, as much as possible, 0% plastic. That is why we use reinforced paper tape to ensure that your orders remain safe and environmentally friendly.

3. 100% biodegradable filling chips 

The protection of your products remains a priority to us. Therefore, all products are surrounded by filling "chips" made of corn starch, which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. After collecting your products, simply place the filling "chips" in water and watch the magic happen! Zero waste!

4. Digitized internal processes

Most of the time, there's no need to waste paper! At BlinkShop, we keep our processes as digital as possible, avoiding the waste of paper in preparing your orders and archiving all the information in the Cloud (instead of dossiers).

5. Responsible brands

We care about providing in our store brands that are also concerned with sustainability and social responsibility issues. That is why we can proudly state that all brands on our site are environmentally friendly and trustworthy brands, with ecological and social contributions. 

Simon Kucher's Global Sustainability Study 2022 points out that 89% of consumers are opting to make more "environmentally friendly" purchases and that 32% of consumers are willing to pay extra to receive more sustainable orders.

There are already several platforms that provide this option: an additional value for a more sustainable packaging. But at BlinkShop, all our orders follow this model, at no extra cost for you.
